Session - 1
|
- Teaching is usually to a cohort/group/batch, although it might
sometimes be one on one. The purpose or goal is to teach a subject or discipline
according to a prescribed curriculum with a final assessment or test as the goal.
- Coaching is usually one on one. But goes beyond just teaching
to enabling improvement in learning. Therefore it focuses more on the learner than
the subject or it's curriculum.
- Mentoring is about helping the learner to develop a proper
world view, relate to careers and overall development as a desirable citizen.
- In this session we explore definitions, purposes, usage and
boundaries of coaching and mentoring.
- Different hats, gowns or coloured scarfs to depict different
roles.
- List words that can be used to describe actions taken by a
teacher and classify them as teaching, coaching or mentoring.

The workshops will run from 10 am to 5 pm. Each participant will receive a certificate
from Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), Scotland's national accrediting and
awarding body. The workshops are a part of a 7 unit Diploma course. Other units
can be taken up at convenience to make a full Diploma programme.
